Self Directed Support Option 3

Supporting maximum flexibility in arranged services / option 3.

Option 3, where services are arranged on behalf of the person, is the most commonly used option in Scotland. The values and principles of self-directed support apply to all four options, meaning that no matter the option chosen there should still be flexibility and opportunity for creativity, leading to person-centred supports.

In 2023 we published some research which sought to find out how, or if, local authorities had changed arranged services since the self-directed support legislation came into force.

This year, we are building on the learning from this research to offer two projects:

  • Action Learning Set: We are running an Action Learning Set for people interested in improving their local offer of option 3. This project has already started, so is closed to new participants, but when it is complete we will share the learning.

  • Demonstration work: working alongside an organisation, our skilled and experienced team will look at a challenge in option 3, and coproduce a workable routemap for change. This might include looking at topics like processes, policies, commissioning practices, guidance, or how to increase practitioner confidence in developing greater flexibility in option 3.

As with all of our grant funded projects, participation in this is free.

If you would like to get involved in this work, or would like to talk to us about option 3 of self-directed support, get in touch: info@in-controlscotland.org.uk
